Items such as Whey, Molasses, Liquor, ect are currently banned from being imported into the US. We are working diligently to have these tariffs reassessed for Campobello.🚨🚨🚨 I am aware of the New Brunswick bonded truck being held at the Canada-U.S. International Border at the St. Stephen-Calais crossing. This truck’s destination is Campobello Island and contains the community’s Canada Post mail as well as items on the U.S. government’s banned import list — spirits, milk, etc. My office and I are working with the Canadian government and United States Embassy to resolve this impasse.
The only year-round route on/off Campobello is by bridge to Lubec, Maine, which is approximately 80 kilometres by road from the St. Stephen-Calais border crossing. This is the only way for island residents to access mainland N.B. year-round. The bonded truck runs daily weekdays to service Campobello’s remote island community. All the truck’s contents are destined to Campobello and the doors sealed with a customs tag. A private seasonal ferry will soon end due to worsening conditions in Head Harbour passage. ... The Rural Community of Campobello Island is looking for residents who are interested in serving on committees that help shape our community and represent Campobello Island at the regional level.
Whether you'd like to have your voice heard, contribute your skills and experience, or take on a leadership role in helping guide important decisions, we'd love to hear from you.
We are currently seeking community representatives for the following committees through the Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission:
· Regional Tourism Committee
· Community Development Committee
· Planning Review & Adjustment Committee
